UPDATE: POSTPONED DUE TO STORM - NEW DATE TBD
In 1998, Michael Showalter, Joe Lo Truglio and I wrote a very silly play called
SEX
(a.k.a. weiners & boobs)
and we performed it at the Clubbed Thumb theater company's Summerworks festival in New York.
The basic storyline:
Jack Greenberg is the new sheriff of Teaneck, New Jersey. Unfortunately, the corrupt town is run by Tad Theaterman, a crime boss armed with henchmen and a legion of hookers and gigolos. The Mayor and townsfolk fear Tad, but love the money the sinful brothels bring in! When Jack meets Hillary, a recent divorcee, it’s love at first sight, but there’s a showdown that’s closin’ in on our hero! Will Jack save Teaneck, get the girl, and defeat Tad? Or will the wieners and boobs prevail?!
Amazingly, the play was published and has been performed all over the world. And next Monday we're gathering (most of) the original cast (JOE LO TRUGLIO, NINA HELLMAN, IAN HELFER, ZAK ORTH, SHARI ALBERT, PETER SALETT, ME) along with TARAN KILLAM, JEREMY SHAMOS and others for a one-time-only reading to benefit Clubbed Thumb!
MON, OCT 29th @ 7:30pm

"SEX a.k.a. Wieners and Boobs...is utterly ridiculous, completely stupid and thoroughly absurd. I haven't laughed so hard in a long time."
--John Staton, Wilmington Star-News
"The very first time I met David Wain, Michael Showalter, and Joe Lotruglio was at a performance of Sex (a.k.a. Weiners and Boobs). I immediately saw it for what it was — a play that rivaled Hamlet in sheer scope and bravura. Ingeniously, I became friends with them that very night. Since then, I have ridden their coattails on many past and future projects. I guess what I’m trying to say is, go see Sex (a.k.a. Weiners and Boobs) while you have the chance, befriend them, and you too may have a shot at becoming an internationally beloved movie star."
--Paul Rudd
And here's me and Joe explaining how it happened.
And here's a little trailer from the first production.
**Please note, this play INCLUDES A SCENE FROM DAVID MAMET'S GLENGARRY GLEN ROSS**
